Quiz: Let’s test your management framework!

Written by Institut de Saine Gestion on 09/12/2011

A TEST FOR EVERYBODY!

We invite you to take a 15-question self-diagnostic test that will allow you to briefly verify if your organisation’s management framework is in conformity with the generally accepted Sound Management principles. A 15-question sample chosen among 200 questions classified in accordance with the generally accepted governance rules. If you don’t understand all the questions, your boss, your MP, your mayor, your banker or your fiduciary of investment funds should know all the answers, or at least some of them, because there are 85 more questions for a complete test. Certainly, the results of this quiz come as a rough guide and they don’t represent a professional opinion about your organization.

An advanced analysis regarding the conformity of a sound management framework shouldn’t be interpreted based on its quantity, but based on an analysis of the degree of incidence of each element of conformity and non-conformity on the organization’s mission and stakes.

You are invited to send us your comments and questions about this test.

REMINDER OF THE SOUND MANAGEMENT CONCEPT AND MODEL

Sound Management is an approach for managers and governors ensuring coherence between the different managerial functions and values characteristic of a sound management in comparison to a bad management. The matrix approach, based on which the model was founded, ensures both an integrated aspect of the OAAQ’s Sound Management principles, and a global vision, like a dashboard, of the elements that could put at risk an organization’s management.

The Sound Management is a concept that suggests a management framework for an organization and it’s based on two precepts: the legal obligation implied by the position of fiduciary or mandatary, and the obligation of an ethical behaviour towards the mandators who entrust their assets and resources to the managers.

The Sound Management model is presented as a three dimensional matrix interrelating the managerial functions (Plan, Organise, Direct, Control, and Coordinate) with the fundamental principles of Sound Management (Transparency, Continuity, Efficiency, Balance, Fairness, and Abnegation). It’s simple and useful!

The management framework and the Sound Management self-diagnostic

A management framework is basically the managerial infrastructure present in all organizations. It constitutes the object of the self-diagnostic and of the mini test. For the management professionals, the management framework is what the reporting system is for accountants. Generally speaking, we define the management framework as a set of policies, rules, and procedures established by the managers and administrators of an organization to guide their business and fulfill their mission.

The management framework suggested by the ISM is a framework on which the Sound Management matrix was overlapped.

The quiz you are about to do follows this model. You’ll notice that each question has a correspondent in the 41 cells.  Don’t forget that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
